One thing that becomes clear very quickly in the party world is that there are a lot of party planning twin mommas! As a mom of twins myself, I have seven double birthdays under my belt and we’re busy planning the 8th party right now. But my twins are girls; how do you plan a birthday party for boy girl twins?

Birthday Party Ideas for Boy-Girl Twins - The Party Teacher

So I reached out to some other moms of multiples to see how they handle their children’s birthdays. It was really interesting to see what we do the same and how we handle things differently.

One thing we have in common is creating one blowout party. When my girls were four, one wanted a Wizard of Oz party and the other wanted a Little Mermaid party. Grace helpfully offered, “We could just do my party one weekend and Meg’s party the next weekend.” Hmm, no. I pitched a dress up party so they could each wear the costume they wanted and everybody was happy.

But the combined party is a bigger challenge when you have boy-girl twins. Different friends, different interests. Here are some of the best party ideas for boy girl twins I’ve found.

P.S. I update this post about once a year, so if you have boy girl twins, keep checking back. Also, don’t miss:

1st Birthday Beatles Party for Twins

This “BABYmania” Beatles-themed first birthday from SHEPaperie via HWTM makes me smile! It’s inspired by the Beatles’ Yellow Submarine period, so it is FULL of amazing, colorful details. I can’t imagine how a new mom had the energy to pull off this party. Even if you used just half these details, you’d still have a fun party with vinyl records, high chair banners, and a photo booth for the older kids and adults.

1st Birthday Pinwheel party for twins

From HWTM, this first birthday for boy-girl twins takes a gender neutral approach that I really like. Mom Jennifer dreamed up the pinwheel theme with a coral, blue and line color palette.

Touches I love:

  • Pinwheel cookies on a stick.
  • Smash cakes with fondant pinwheels.
  • It’s just the right amount of party for children who won’t remember the event and don’t require activities.

1st Birthday Winter Wonderland Party for Twins

This set of twins had one busy momma who styled a winter wonderland first birthday party. The creams, silvers and burlap create an amazing backdrop for a monochromatic dessert table done to perfection.

1st Birthday Peanuts Party for Twins

Paula Woods styled this boy-girl twins Peanuts first birthday party, and it is stunning. I love the colors, I love the chevron, and I love that the party favors included Peppermint Patties in little red dog houses.

1st Birthday Thing 1 and Thing 2 Party for Twins

Let’s Have a Ball Parties created this boy/girl twin party with loads of Thing 1 and Thing 2 flair. Gotta love Dr. Seuss — especially for a first birthday. The spiky tissue pom balls look just like the Things’ hair!

1st Birthday Cookies & Milk Party for Twins

A vintage milk and cookies party is a great gender-neutral theme for boy-girl twins, and this party by Designs by KF created for her twins, is full of DIY touches. I especially love the milk bottles with the wooden “1” tag. Guests were invited to decorate sugar cookies. The favor boxes were even in the shape of milk cartons. Hop over to Pop Sugar to see the whole party — including one twin who’s either passed out in her cake, or eating with gusto — I can’t decide which, but either way, that’s a girl to be admired.

1st Birthday Farmer’s Market Party for Twins

Samuel and Stella “pigged out” — you’ll get it — at their own Farmer’s Market Party. See the whole party on Project Nursery. I’m a fan of gingham and love how the twins’ mommy focused on red and blue gingham. She also DIYed a lot of the party — including all the guests’ party hats. Promise me you’ll hop over and see the size of the twins’ smash cakes!

1st and 2nd Birthdays Polka Dot/Stripes and Birds/Planes

Kate Landers styles parties like no one else. She created first and second birthday parties for boy-girl twins, James and Olivia. For the first birthday, Kate spun an entire party out of polka dots and stripes. For the second birthday, the theme was birds and airplanes. You can see photos from both their birthdays here, along with Kate’s tips for twin parties.

2nd Birthday Noah’s Ark Party for Twins

I just love the two x two idea for a twins party — especially for a second birthday. This party combines a petting zoo with the rainbow – so clever! See the whole party on Kara’s Party Ideas.

3rd Birthday Country Farm Party for Twins

The Little Nook in Atlanta styled this country farm birthday for boy/girl twins. I love the red gingham with burlap and haystacks. The children got to enjoy a petting zoo, but you could also adapt this style for a cowboy/cowgirl party. (I’m guessing the kids are 3; the post doesn’t say, but really this would work for kids ages 3 to 6 or so.)

3rd Birthday Vintage Dick and Jane Party for Twins

Giggles Galore created this Vintage Dick and Jane Party for her boy/girl twins. It combines vintage toys (love!) with bright colors and doilies, so you know I’m in heaven! The games and activities were old-fashioned, too: bean bag toss, sack races, tag and a cake walk. Love. it.

3rd Birthday Nautical Party for Twins

This sophisticated nautical party for boy-girl twins included a dinner and dessert table. It’s a charmer and you can see the whole event on Pretty My Party. Each child received a fun beach bucket of party favors, and got to decorate the kraft table runners. The dessert table has a beach-y feel with sand dollar cookies and cake decorated with edible sea shells.

3rd Birthday Mickey and Minnie Party for Twins

Mom Kelly Little DIY’ed this Mickey and Minnie Mouse Party for her boy-girl twins and it looks so good! See the full party at Just a Little Party; just click on the images to make them larger. Be sure to check out the balloon wreath and the fondant accents she created for the cake. The main party activity was not one but two bounce houses, and guests took home monogrammed cups.

5th Birthday Cowboy and Cowgirl Party for Twins

A pink and blue vintage cowboy-cowgirl theme is a darling choice for twins. This lucky pair got to go horseback riding and dig into a sweet tables with two cakes, chocolate covered Oreos and cupcakes. See the whole party by Jack and Kate here.

5th Birthday Pirates and Mermaids Party for Twins

Jenny of Bloom Designs created a pirates and mermaids party for her children’s fifth birthday. Here’s what I love about this party.

  • Jenny created her own printables in pink polka dots and blue stripes. (You can really see the effect in her water bottle labels.) One set of printables that works for both birthday honorees = brilliant.
  • Activities … you know I think a party is about so much more than great decorations and desserts. Jenny says, “We made mermaid necklaces out of “pearls,” wrote messages in a bottle and decorated treasure boxes. On the pirate cove side of the party, there was sword fighting, walking the plank and digging for buried treasure.  Everyone participated in a treasure hunt where they earned mermaid money or pirate’s treasure. These type of hunts are one of my favorite party activities.  They work for every age.”

6th Birthday Circus Party for Twins

Warning: click to view this party and you will totally go down the blog rabbit hole, because this mom does. it. up. for her boy-girl twins every year. I love a bright and colorful birthday party, and this circus-themed party definitely qualifies. Photographer Erin Harris has linked to birthday parties 1 to 5 at the end of her post about this circus party, so don’t miss it.

In the meantime, this circus party has got on-point desserts and a magician who clearly kept the kids in stitches. What I especially love about this party is that mom Jen’s design choices all worked toward her theme without being overdone. Such a great job!
