For our snow cone stand, I made one of these faux snow cones just for a fun decoration. I ran out of time to make more, but they are so cute and easy, I had to show you the how-to. I think these would be adorable as a garland, hanging across your snow cone stand!
Supplies
- Acrylic craft paint in colors of your choice
- Styrofoam balls, 3-inch size
- Dollar store paper cups
- Toothpick
- Bowl
- Plastic spoon for mixing
Optional supplies
- Single hole punch
- Baker’s twine
- Aleene’s Thick Tacky Glue
Instructions
1 – Pour about a nickle-size blob of paint into your bowl.
2 – Add enough water to fill about half the bowl and mix your paint into the water.
3 – Spear your styrofoam ball with a toothpick.
4 – Holding the toothpick, plunge your ball into your paint. Twist and turn the ball so that just more than half of the ball absorbs the paint. This only takes about 20 seconds. You don’t want the ball to become fully saturated, because the white showing through is what gives you the icy look. When you’re done, remove the ball from the paint and let the excess drip off.
5 – Pop the ball into your cup, toothpick side down.
Want to turn your faux snow cones into a garland?
1 – Before you add the balls to cups, use your single hole punch to punch a hole in either side of your cup.
2 – String with bakers’ twine. You’ll want to loop with baker’s twine twice through each hole, so the cups hold their position on your garland. Leave a fair amount of slack inside your cup to allow room for the ball.
3 – Add glue to the inside rim of the cup, then add your ball.
YES, oh YES, I love this idea! Thanks so much for showing us how! Pinning this! Hugs and blessings, Cindy
Thanks, Cindy!
