I’m planning two parties right now — both indoors — that will have three “up against the wall” party backdrop opportunities. My head is swirling with possibilities … we’ll see if my skills can support my imagination! I think I’m going to have to call in my Vice President of Special Projects for engineering help!
All this planning made me want to collect some samples of fabulous backdrops to share with you. In the process I found that Frog Prince Paperie did a great post on this topic and shared some of her backdrop tricks — definitely worth a read — find it here.
My two spaces have different challenges. In my dining room, I have a large and very heavy mirror over the sideboard. What seems to work best here is draping a lightweight fabric (like a calico) over the mirror and securing it with Scotch brand heavy duty Velcro. I have three pieces of Velcro on the back of the mirror. With Don’s help, I position the fabric over the mirror and stick the Velcro mates to the fabric. Then I just press the Velcro tape together and my fabric is all set. I used fabric for the Christmas Card Writing Party and the Ca$h Cab Party.
I’ve also used good quality wrapping paper over the mirror and fastened that with blue painter’s tape. That’s what I did for the Halloween party.
In our basement playroom, we have built-in bookshelves that I designed. The space in between the bookshelves is my largest party buffet space in the house. There I use a tension rod and curtain clips to hang fabric. Don had the idea of putting a little bit of card board at the end of each tension rod to prevent indentions in the bookcase. I tried this for the first time for our New Year’s Eve party and this system is so easy, so I’ll be using it more.
Now for the pretty pictures! These are some of my favorite backdrops from recent parties.
Eloise spa-jama party from Catherine at Serendipity Soiree
See the first party (in three parts) here. Catherine illustrated this backdrop herself, then added a darling banner.
Layered Paper Fans by Katie and Alice from KaLice Events
There are more than 50 handmade paper fans and doilies in this wow-worthy display. See more of the party over at HWTM.
Barbie at the Beach Party by Paisley Petal Events
My two would adore this party, complete with handmade and painted surfboards.

Jen, thanks so much for including my surfboard backdrop with these other fabulous party backdrops!!

Holly
My girls are already saying they want a surf party next year — yes, they are planning 12 months out — and I just want to say, “But Holly’s already done it so well. I don’t think I have anything to add…” If they knew there was such a thing as a Barbie surf party, I’d be doomed!
