I thought you might enjoy taking a peek behind the scenes today. On Sunday, we had our Flower Fairy Party photo shoot, so last week, I had lots of paryt prep to-dos.
Party week always starts for me with a touch of panic. While the Flower Fairy Party is my main focus, I’m also planning something for July 4th and another party that’s top secret for now. And that’s typically how it is. Multiple parties floating around my head at one time. So, I have to start making notes. Then I have to try to read my handwriting. So I give up and type it up. And at some point, I actually have to accomplish today’s to-dos.
The notes made me realize that not everything I ordered had arrived yet, so I checked the shipping status of my Etsy purchases. Seeing that things have at least shipped makes me feel better. (Having a Plan B also provides some reassurance.)
The postman came! The postman came!! So excited to get orders from Edible Details and Riley Construction on Monday!
Monday night’s big to-do was to trim out all my printables. Wrapping bubble bottles was on the list, too. (And oh yeah — I guess I need to hit Dollar Tree for another bottle of bubbles.)
Later in the week, I finally decided how to make these letters work as chair decorations. I had a sneaking suspicion — and it was right — that I just had to figure it out onsite.
Did I say “onsite”? Yup. As much as I love an at-home party — after all, our tagline is “inspired children’s parties in your home” — I couldn’t resist this particular outdoor space. And so while it’s nice not having to get the house spic and span, it does mean having to pack everything up to transport to our party space. As of Wednesday, I had two tubs packed, with two more to go.
And some things are just mundane, like washing out my new mason jars. I was pretty excited about using these for the first time. I also used paper straws for the first time. I’d never been able to imagine them: it seemed like they would get mushy and icky, but they held up just fine.
On Thursday I did a site visit, which turned out to be more unnerving than reassuring. A storm had come through and partly taken out a tree. That led to a decision to remove two trees, and so our shady garden was suddenly a sunny garden. And sun and cake pops don’t mix. But on the upside, I was invited to come over on Saturday to set up early, which made Sunday’s set-up much easier.
And that’s party week at our house. Can’t wait to share the photos with you!
What a great, helpful, informative post! Thank you – can’t wait to see the party in its entirety : )
Love your behind the scenes look! Those plush dolls are precious and I must get me some of those mason jar toppers someday!
Jen-Where did you find the jars? ~Bud
Hi Bud!
You can get mason jars anywhere (WalMart). The trick is finding the pewter daisy lids. A few party supply stores have just the lids, like The TomKat Studio. But I bought a case of 12 jars and lids for $12.75 from Candle Soylutions: http://www.candlesoylutions.com/closeup.asp?cid=13&pid=560&offset=0. They had the best price I could find. Hope that helps!
