This weekend, I was so honored to co-host a baby shower for Brooks, momma-to-be of my great niece, Madelyn. The shower was held at my sister-in-law Kathy’s beautiful home. My other sister-in-law, Beverly, was also a co-host, so it was definitely a group effort to throw our Feather Her Nest Baby Shower.

Brooks has chosen an adorable bird print as part of her nursery bedding, so that was our jumping off point. Our printables from Blu Grass were perfect for the whimsical look we were trying to achieve.

We decorated three areas:

  1. the dining room, where we used the table as a buffet;
  2. the kitchen table, where our wishing tree was stationed; and
  3. the living room, where we opened presents.

These lovely pink hydrangeas graced the front door. A local florist provided these and the others that Kathy put on her kitchen bar.

Kathy’s father-in-law loaned us the most beautiful huge silver trays that held the sandwiches. We filled in with our own silver and crystal, but those big trays were just breathtaking!

This hot pink bird cage was an “I got lucky” moment at Hobby Lobby. Originally around $80, it was marked down to about $20, so I snagged the only one left for our shower. I lined the bottom of the bird cage with silk peony heads. On the swing, I perched a patchwork bird I had made by Amy of Custom Creations.

Beverly found these cute momma and baby bird food label holders at Party City. They matched our printables perfectly! I filled in the table with these concrete-look birds from Tuesday Morning.

Feather Her Nest Shower Food

We had a large assortment of tea sandwiches and sweets. It was very traditional southern baby shower fare. We served:

  • Chicken salad on croissants
  • Pimento cheese sandwiches
  • Honey walnut tea sandwiches
  • Mini quiches
  • Strawberries and dip
  • Cashews
  • Cheese straws
  • Cheese ball and crackers
  • Strawberry yogurt-covered pretzels.

Desserts included chocolate cake pops, strawberry cake pops, brownie bites, mints and petit fours. I have to show off the petit fours: they were made by a local bakery and topped by baby booties, rattles and diaper pins.

The cake pops were so popular that one of the great-grandmothers to-be left the party with several in her purse! I can’t wait to be 77 and do whatever I please. 🙂

But I have to say my favorite dessert was these mini bird cookies from A Cookie Jar. They are almond flavored and just too amazing in person. The edible glitter? To die for. Not a single bird cookie was left at the end of the shower.

We had a delicious punch on the sideboard. I added another bird and nest combo. Over the punch, I added a mini bird garland.

Feather Her Nest Shower Living Room

We opened gifts in the living room, so I decorated the mantle with a bird garland, the yarn-wrapped M (see the tutorial here), and bird houses (cupcake pom tutorial here).

Feather Her Nest Shower Wishing Tree

Gotta love Pinterest for this idea: a wishing tree for the guests to write baby Madelyn their wishes for her! My brother-in-law was in charge of making our “tree” from branches in his yard and I think he did a bang-up job.

Feather Her Nest Shower Favors

Here’s a tip about inspiration: have patience. If you go to Etsy and search on a broad term like “bird party” you will get 10,000 results. Start weeding through them because you will find something you never imagined — promise!

That’s how I found our party favors: apple scented bird soaps by Aubrey Elizabeth Apothecary. Beverly and I packaged these in small cello bags with brown crinkle paper (to look like a nest). We tied these with thank you tags from Blu Grass and pink ribbon.
