All the excitement around the landing of the rover Curiosity on Mars made me want to celebrate the possibility of alien life. So today’s project is a “Take Me To Your Leader” banner. Now I’m sure that Curiosity will prove there are no little green men on Mars, but what fun is that?

I’m thinking that I’ll build a dessert table over the course of a week and share it with you. And I’m trying to do it with only what I already have. (So far, I’ve only purchased ribbon and disposable pie tins, so I’ve spent less than $6.) I’ll share it with you as I make progress.

Aliend Life Supplies

  • Cardstock
  • Tin Foil
  • Power Glue Stick
  • Scissors
  • Hole Punch
  • Foam Letter Stickers
  • Ribbon

Alien Life Instructions

1 – Apply Power Glue Stick liberally to one side of your cardstock. Rip off a piece of tin foil slightly larger than your paper and smooth it down over the glue.

2 – Trim the excess tin foil off the cardstock.

3 – Cut 3″ strips of your cardstock, working horizontally.

4 – Cut each 3″ strip in half at a little more than the 4″ mark.

5 – On the cardstock side of your 3″ x 4″ strips, trace a triangle shape. Cut out a triangular notch from each strip.

6 – Add a letter to each piece to spell out “Take Me To Your Leader.”

7 – Punch a hole in each upper corner of your strips.

8 – Tie the strips together with ribbon. I used bright blue and green in 5″ lengths.

Tomorrow: the backdrop and some decorations.
