If you’ve been following my parties, one name you’ll see over and over is Amy of Scrumdiddlyumptious Bakery. I’m not sure that “bakery” tells the whole story, because Amy also is a talented felt artist. She put both those skills to work in this Woodland Fairy & Gnomes birthday party she created when her daughter turned 7.
I love that her color scheme was red, orange, green, brown, and cream. It’s really just a perfect way to have a fairy party if you also want/need to invite boys. Amy invited 11 children and held the party in the play area of her church. This is really a stunning space; the kids must love it. The indoor play ground equipment gave Amy a built in party activity and the wall mural kick-started her party backdrop.
Amy made everything for the party except for the cake, which cracks me up. She must have been soooo busy! I wish I had a photo of the party invitation to show you. Amy made the invites out of felt flowers that she glued onto sticks. The party information was attached to the sticks with a ribbon – brilliant!
Amy went to town with the felt. All the boys got felt gnome beards and red gnome hats to wear. She also made the girls wands and felt fairy wings.
Amy says, “We had a fairy garden station where everyone made their own fairy gardens to take home. My hubby made the boxes and I made the fairy furniture and garden decor.” I’m wondering when Amy sleeps? The table is covered in brown craft paper, which is a great choice and I like much better than a plastic table cover.
Over the food table, Amy hung a net and draped roses made out of coffee filters down the front. The table was covered with a dark brown table cloth with a moss table runner.
Amy made big crepe paper flowers, put them in vases and added topiary plants that she had at home. (Love using what you have!) She says, “I also painted a few bird houses to look like toadstools and added some little bird nests to the table. For the kids table, I used red and white dot wrapping paper as a runner and placed two little Gnomes that I made out of felt in the middle.”
Amy did one thing that I always recommend but she put a clever twist on it. Amy made a sample fairy garden, which is a great way to help children visualize their party craft. But Amy also used her craft sample as a food table centerpiece — very smart.
Amy says, “We had a make-your-own Gnome Trail Mix, which included Chocolate Dew Drops (mini chocolate chips), Wrinkled Fairy Berries (cranberries), Chipmunk Chips (dried bananas), Gnome Walking Sticks (mini stick pretzels), and Gnome Cookies (cookie crisp cereal).”
She also served Feather dust (cotton candy), Magical Mushrooms (marshmallows on sticks dipped in red chocolate with white sprinkles) and Fairy Garden Worms (red vine licorice).
Such a gorgeous party! Thank you Amy for sharing it with us! If you have a party to share, I’d love to see it! Just use my Contact form to tell me about your event and send me your photos.
