November 24 would have been my father-in-law’s 99th birthday. Bill, or Paw-Paw as all the grandchildren called him, owned a series of independent grocery stores. We always celebrated Paw-Paw’s birthday at Thanksgiving, and thinking about him this past week put me in mind of this darling grocery store party from Paper & Cake. Abigail very kindly allowed me to feature her party, in honor of Paw-Paw.
With those stores, Paw-Paw put three children through college — working seven days a week. The grocery stores are gone now, one even replaced by a MARTA (subway) station. I wish the girls could have visited one.
When the girls were two or three, Aunt Kathy got them play grocery carts and wooden play food. Now the girls are nearly eight and they still play with their carts and food. If yours are like mine, they would adore this party. (Or you could create this just for their play room!)
Paper & Cake created all the printables and then added them to some specialty boxes but also to regular food packaging. Abigail wrapped empty food boxes and cans in brown kraft paper and then added her printables.
Shelf tags!
The combination of faux bois (the wood grain pattern) and the chalkboard look is darling.
This awning is included in the printables set. It turns an everyday bookcase into store shelves. Abigail says, “Two pieces of PVC pipe, covered in brown craft paper, were easily added to the back of the bookshelf. Foam core board topped with printed pages of the green and white striped design make an easy and cute awning.” For large scale printing, I recommend Driftwood Printing.
The felt food is one of the most stunning parts of this party. The Sewing Loft created bread, strawberries, corn, beans, carrots and these fish (my favorite).
You all know that I love Edible Details so much I use her for all of my parties. Brittany created this cash register and the cupcake topper coins. Paw-Paw had a cash register just like this one, but in a brass tone.
The pink bakery boxes, blue berry boxes, and the striped candy cups are from Shop Sweet Lulu.
One of the things I like best about this party is how clean and simple the decor is. Bunting dresses up this space and is really all you need to make a festive space.
