One of the things you’ll see at our Valentine’s themed bridal shower is a large canvas painted out in a strawberry pink. I was planning to drape the canvas in doily bunting, when I had an inspiration this weekend. So my little helpers and I made a big batch of doily umbrellas. This project costs about $6.
Doily Umbrella Supplies
- 6″ doilies
- Black pipe cleaners
- Black buttons
- Aleene’s Thick Tacky Glue
- Scissors
Doily Umbrella Instructions
1 – Fold your doilies in half, being sure to line up the design on either side.
2 – Run a thin bead of glue in the half circle of the doily and press the two sides together.
3 – Cut your pipe cleaners in half.
4 – Bend one end of your pipe cleaner into a “J” shape.
5 – Run a 1″ bead of glue on the straight end of your pipe cleaner and glue it to the back of your doily. The pipe cleaner should extend out from the flat end of the folded doily.
6 – Flip the doily over and add a button to the top of the doily curve with a dot of glue.
Can’t wait to share the finished project with you! (Update: see the shower here.)
This was such a great project to do with kids. They folded doilies and bent pipe cleaners and I worked the glue. It made me realize that, at 7, the girls can be precise and consistent with their crafting.
Once we had the doily umbrellas done, I got Grace to help me make a doily cone wreath. It was really a lot of fun to do this with her, and since we had 56 doilies to turn into cones, having her help was a huge time saver. I’ll share those with you when we’re done.
These are so adorable! : )
