After I made my Shark Candy Kababs to celebrate Shark Week, I still had a ton of gummy sharks and sour belts left over. Apparently, I can’t throw anything away, and have no fondant or cupcake frosting skills, but fortunately, inspiration hit and I decided to turn my leftover candy into cupcakes. Here’s how to make shark cupcakes.
- Blue sugar sprinkles
- Blue sour belts
- Red sour belts
- Gummy sharks
- Kitchen scissors
1 – My store-bought cupcakes didn’t come with blue frosting, but that was an easy fix. Pour blue sprinkles into a shallow bowl and then roll the entire frosted top of your cupcake in the blue sprinkles.
2 – Gently fold a blue sour belt (and/or red sour belt) back-and-forth into a wave shape. Cut it to your desired length with scissors.
3 – Place the sour belt waves (and blood trails — eew!) on top of the frosting and press them down a little bit so they’ll stick in place. I started with just blue waves to mimic the sea, but then couldn’t resist the pop of red.
4 – Add your gummy shark In front of the sour belt waves. Press the tail end of the shark into the frosting a little bit so he’ll stick. He’ll look like his rising up out of the waves.
And that’s it. You don’t have to be a cupcake artist to make some really cute shark cupcakes to celebrate Shark Week or host your own shark birthday party.
