My Parties: How to Style a Bunnies & Bows Easter Tablescape

My best rule for party styling is: use what you have. That’s just what I did for this bunnies and bows Easter tablescape: I leaned into what I already own and only bought a few new items. Here’s hoping this Easter tablescape will inspire you to create your own lovely Easter table by shopping your home first!

I started with these pretties from my collection:

• My grandmother’s Meito china
• Amber wine glasses
• Crystal water glasses
• Gold-tone flatware from Amazon
• Large white ceramic bunnies (find similar at AtHome)
• Mini white ceramic bunnies from an antique store
• White bow napkin holders from an antique store
• White placemats from Amazon
• Brass candlestick holders from Amazon
• 1.5″ white satin ribbon

To coordinate with the china, I added:

• White linen napkins from Amazon
• Yellow and white seersucker fabric from Amazon (used as a tablecloth)
• White rope taper candlesticks from World Market

Use Fabric as Your Tablecloth

For children’s parties, I usually choose an inexpensive, solid color fabric tablecloth, but for Easter, I really wanted a subtle patterned tablecloth. I couldn’t find one I liked, so I turned to extra-wide fabric (54 inches wide). Fabric great solution for a party tablecloth as long as you have a table pad underneath.

Measure your table to figure out how much to buy; I bought four yards to have a nice drape. You can have the edges of the fabric finished in jumbo rick rack trim and have yourself a great, washable tablecloth at a reasonable price.

TIP: Ironing a tablecloth is a pain. Here’s a workaround. Spread the tablecloth over your tablepad. Fill a spray bottle with water and mist all the creases. Pull up the sections of cloth that drape off the table and mist those as well. Pop the tablecloth in your dryer with two dryer sheets and toss on low for 20-30 minutes. The result won’t be as crisp as ironing, but you’ll lose the creases and save a lot of time.

Fill the Center of Your Table

The center of the table is decorated with the large and small bunnies, candles and the flower arrangement. (Learn how to create your own Easter centerpiece here.) We can serve Easter lunch from the sideboard, or move the bunnies to the sideboard to accommodate serving dishes.

Create a Formal Place Setting

I usually set a formal table only twice a year: on Christmas and Easter. Here are the basics:

• Dinner plate topped by salad plate
• Bread plate to the upper left
• Water glass at upper right
• Wine glass and coffee beneath the wine glass
• Forks and napkin on left, knife and spoon(s) on right

Customize Your Bunny Bows

I love adding a little something more to my plates, whether it’s a place card or a party favor. For this party, I changed out the color bow on some chocolate bunnies so they would blend better with our bows and bunnies palette of yellow and white.

Finally, I tied white satin ribbon bows on each chair. It’s not needed, but it’s a fun little touch that continues the theme.

TIP: Tie your first chair bow, THEN cut the ribbon off the roll once you’re pleased with the length. Untie that first bow, and use the cut ribbon to measure the remaining lengths of ribbon that you’ll need. Then tie all your chair bows.
