If getting your kids to eat dinner on Halloween night is a struggle for you the way it always was for me, set a table your kids can’t resist. Posable skeletons are pretty inexpensive, and they make a fun and unexpected centerpiece for a Halloween skeleton tablescape.

I like using cloth placemats and napkins and melamine dishes, but you could easily create this look with paper placemats, napkins and plates. If my skeleton plates are too spooky for your little ones, there are plenty of “friendly” skeleton paper plates out there.

How to set your table

  1. Start by layering a table protector and then your black tablecloth.
  2. Add black or gray creepy cloth down the center of your table as a table runner.
  3. Pose the skeleton on top of the creepy cloth.
  4. Scatter candles in brass candlesticks around the skeleton.
  5. Fill in with several small vases of black and white flowers. All my flowers are faux, but you could mix real white flowers and baby’s breath with black silk roses. (Add water to your vases so the flowers look more real.)
  6. Layer white placemats with black dinner-size plates and then lunch-size skeleton plates.
  7. To the left of your plates, roll up the black and white stripe napkins and insert them in black wire napkin rings. (The white placemats, black plates, black and white napkins, and black napkin rings are all neutrals you will use time and time again for so many parties!)
  8. Gold metal flatware would be cute, but I used gold and white premium plasticware that I already had. (These are another great party staple. They are actually sturdy enough to handwash and reuse.)
  9. The mason jars are another find from my party stash. I’ve used them in our CMA Award Karaoke Party and our Horseback Riding Party.
