Mini New Year’s Eve Celebration for Kids

Scrambling to put together a mini New Year’s Eve celebration for your family? Me too! After the race through the holidays that is the fall-winter season, I’m about out of steam by NYE. I’m also for sure not staying up til midnight. We’ll have a little early New Year’s Eve party here at home, and call the New Year celebrated.

We haven’t undecorated for Christmas yet (that’s coming soon), so I just cleared off the dresser in our front hallway to create a party space. I almost always start designing with my party colors, and decided that this year, we’d go with pink, gold and silver.

You can see our past New Year’ Eve parties here:

Here are some New Year’s Eve decorations, if you’re feeling crafty:

• Tick Tock NYE Wreath
• Party Horn Garland
• Free NYE Printables

And, finally, a mini NYE party plan if you’re feeling really ambitious!

New Year’s Eve Party Decorations

A last-minute party means a last-minute party backdrop. I made a Happy New Year poster in Canva, and you can download the PDF file here. It prints up to 18” x 24”, which is the perfect size for my bulletin board. (You can see how I stole this backdrop idea from my Friendsgiving Pie Baking Party.) Then all I had to do was swag silver garland across the bulletin board and our stair railing. I even added some gold star garland to tie in both our party colors.

I like to protect the surface of the dresser, so I laid a piece of gold-dot fabric across the top. This is just from my fabric stash; probably about 1-1/2 yards, folded to the size I needed.

Across the front of the dresser, I made one of my ribbon buntings and hung it from the drawer handles.

I couldn’t resist adding some disco balls and party hats to fill in the gaps on our table. (A little décor element can go a long way on your dessert table!)

Finally, I added a little white vase to hold sparklers for fake midnight.

New Year’s Eve Desserts

We didn’t need much for our mini party. Baby B and I made Birthday Cake Cookie Bars from a Family Circle recipe that’s no longer online. Try this version from Sally’s Baking Addiction instead. We topped the frosting with pink, gold and silver sprinkles.

We grabbed brownie bites and mini vanilla cupcakes from the grocery store. For the cupcakes, we added gold star sprinkles and gold and silver cupcake toppers. Full confession: I am a party hoarder. I originally made the cupcake toppers for this Sweet Sixteen Surprise Party and had a bunch left over. I was pretty pumped to finally use these up!

Our serving pieces are a mix of silver and white, which worked perfectly with our color scheme. I brought in gold with our forks and gold striped napkins from Meri Meri.

Signature Drink for New Year’s Eve

You can’t tell it yet, but our signature (non-alcoholic) drink is a raspberry soda float. Find the tutorial here! Obviously, you wouldn’t make these ahead of time, but they do come together very quickly and they are so yummy!

In the meantime, my CHEERS glasses — a Target Dollar Spot find — dress up the dessert table with gold disco and silver tinsel drink stirrers. (And yes, because I always recommend shopping at home first, the stirrers are left over from a St. Patrick’s Day Party and our Disco Party)
