Each month in the Party Plan Club, I suggest ways to decorate your door for whatever party theme we’re focused on that month. (We also cover color palette, invitations, decor, dessert tables, activities and party favors — find out more here.) I always say that front door decor is a “nice to have” — not a “need to have” and I’m looking for easy and inexpensive ways to dress up the front door for a party. And that led me to figure out how to add a ribbon bundle to a wreath.

How to Make Ribbon Bundles for Wreaths by The Party Teacher-2

Here’s what I love about the trend of ribbon bundles:

  • They are easy and fun to make.
  • They are so simple to change seasonally or with your party theme.
  • You only need a few supplies.
  • They’re cheap!

If you’re ever looking for a quick, easy and inexpensive way to welcome guests to your party, you have to try making your own ribbon bundle.

Ribbon Bundle Supplies

  • 20″ round boxwood wreath
  • 6″ zip ties
  • Split key ring
  • Command Strip hook
  • Scissors
  • Ribbon/fabric scissors
  • Lighter
  • Ruler or tape measure

Ribbon Bundle Instructions

1 – Gather an assortment of ribbon patterns and widths. I used 11 different ribbon patterns in total, most in widths ranging from 3/16″ to 7/8″. My widest ribbon was double-faced satin and 1.5″ wide. The other ribbons were all grosgrain.

2 – The length of your ribbon bundle should be proportional to your wreath. My wreath is 20″ wide, so having the ribbons hang 6″ below the bottom of the wreath looked best.

You’re going to double over each ribbon. Test the length by positioning the fold of your ribbon at the top of your wreath.

3 – For my 20″ wreath, I cut a 48″ length of each ribbon. (I folded each ribbon in half and then cut at the 24″ mark on my self-healing mat.)

4 – Heat seal each end of the ribbon with a lighter.

5 – When you feel like you have enough ribbon cut, lay the ribbons across your wreath to test that you have the fullness you want.

6 – Slide a 6-inch zip tie into the split key ring.

7 – Lay the fold of the ribbon bundle in the middle of the zip tie, then pull the zip tie closed tightly and trim the end.

8 – Apply the Command Strip hook to your door, then hang the split key ring over the hook.

9 – Add the wreath to your hook, then pull the ribbon ends to the front of the wreath.
