Ya’ll, I guess I can kiss the SEO ranking on this post goodbye, because NO ONE is going to be Googling “Dolly Parton + Weather Birthday Party for Twins.” But, this is the reality of birthday parties for twins! Honestly, I’m just glad my kids haven’t said they are too cool for a little party decor. They still love a little fuss for their birthday, and I am here for it.
My original idea was to set up two distinct areas: the Dolly Parton themed table and backdrop in the kitchen and the weather party in the dining room. But my twin girls agreed that we should just mix it all up, so that’s what we did. I love that they enjoy having their own unique theme but still want to celebrate together.

So how did we get here?
Target has some cute rainbow/clouds partyware and cute dog partyware. Since one of my girls wants to be a meteorologist and the other wants to be a vet, that seemed like an easy and inexpensive way to go.
Then I ran into some “What Would Dolly Do?” cocktail napkins in a boutique and couldn’t stop thinking about them. My future vet also is all about Dolly Parton right now.
So I did a quick, party-planning u-turn and we switched themes to Dolly and weather.
Dolly Parton + Weather Table Settings
I tried to use what I already owned as much as possible for this party, so I shopped my house first for table settings. Here how the Dolly Parton place settings worked out:
- White linen placemat
- Gold charger
- Pink heavy-duty plastic plate
- White/gold cutlery tied with a pink bow
- Dolly Parton napkins (new from WalMart)
- Pink cowgirl boot mugs (new from Amazon)
- Gold paper straws
- Gold disco ball drink stirrer
And here’s what we did for the weather place settings:
- Round yellow placemat with pom-poms
- Blue scalloped plate (new from Walmart)
- Yellow gingham napkins
- Blue gauze napkins
- The same white/gold cutlery but tied with a blue bow
- Plastic mason jar mugs
- The same straws and drink stirrers
Dolly Parton Cake + Weather Cake
When I asked the girls what kind of cake they wanted, of course they wanted different flavors. But Baby B also requested Publix cake. I found a striped 6-layer cake and asked for two versions of it:
Pink/white stripes with vanilla and chocolate cake + cookies and cream filing + gold sprinkles for the Dolly cake.
Light blue/light yellow stripes with vanilla cake + chantilly berry filling + silver sprinkles for the weather cake.
Since the cakes were so pretty, I decided to use those as my table centerpiece. From there, I just added our other goodies in between the cakes:
- Cloud popcorn (recipe to come — it’s so good!)
- Macarons
- Chocolate covered strawberries
Not a lot, but plenty for a casual family party.
ARched Party BackdropS
For years and years, my party backdrops have been all about hiding this huge mirror that hung above our sideboard and that I was so. sick. of. We re-did our floors and got several pieces of new furniture, decor and art this fall, so now the last thing I want to do is cover the painting that replaced the mirror above the sideboard.
So, I decided to try a gold arched frame that I’ve recommend in the Party Plan Club. I love this. One arch is 7.2 feet and the other is 6 feet tall. It was easy to assemble even by myself. I also got white stretchy covers that fit the arches perfectly.
I know TikTok is fully of videos about buying insulation paneling, cutting an arch and painting the arches. That may be less expensive, but it’s a lot more work. This arch set was $66 and the covers were $39. So if you’re short on time and budget allows, I’d go with the metal arch over the DIY panels.
Dolly Parton Party Backdrop
However, what I would do differently is buy the fabric cover that matched my other backdrop decor.
Where I ran into problems was with the pink foil fringe curtains for the Dolly backdrop. I bought a pack of two, and one arrived used and ripped up. That left a big white gap showing; the pink fabric cover would have disguised it a little more.
I added a pink cowgirl boot foil balloon to one side of the backdrop and scattered gold foil butterflies across the front. I guess butterflies are Dolly’s thing? I’d recommend nano tape for sticking balloons to the fabric cover. (You want the security of attaching to the fabric cover and not just the foil streamers.)
Weather Party Backdrop
The blue foil fringe curtain was a different brand and perfect so I’d definitely recommend the xo Fetti brand. On top of the fringe I layered paper raindrop garland and paper sunshine garland.
For balloons, I chose sunshine, cloud and lightning bolt balloons. The sunshine and cloud balloons ripped easily, so I’m afraid I can’t recommend those.
At this point, my husband says, “I don’t get what cowgirl boots have to do with weather.” So, big face palm. Nothing honey. But ONE twin likes Dolly Parton and the OTHER TWIN likes weather, so we’re mashing it up.
