Inspired by the leprechaun traps on Pinterest, I thought we might take a friendlier approach and just invite some leprechauns to come live with us! If they did, just think of all the green milk we could drink.
At our St. Patrick’s Day party, the children converted Kleenex boxes to “welcome leprechauns” houses. This is super easy, and the the kids all enjoyed it. My girls are checking their houses daily for little green men.
Leprechaun House Supplies
- Kleenex boxes (the square-ish ones)
- Green scrapbooking paper (12″ x 12″)
- Brown paper
- Orange paper
- Scotch tape
- Scissors or paper trimmer
- Aleene’s Tacky Glue
- Crayons
Leprechaun House Instructions
1. Trim two sides of the oval opening so that it looks more like a doorway.
2. Have the children choose their paper.
3. Fold a piece of green scrapbooking paper around your Kleenex box and trim to fit. This will take two strips of paper, each about 5 1/8″ wide. For younger children, you might want to pre-trim the paper. Older children could use safety scissors and cut the paper themselves. If you decide to use a paper trimmer, make sure it’s for adult fingers only.
4. Secure the paper around your box with Scotch tape.
5. Cut a piece of paper to fit the bottom of the box and secure with Scotch tape.
6. Cut out flags from your orange paper and have the children write “Welcome Leprechauns.” (Or, you know, “Welcome Lepecones” as one of mine wrote. LOL!) Glue the flags on one side of the door.
7. Tear up strips of brown paper. Crunch it into balls and use the Aleene’s glue to make “rocks” on either side of the house’s door. You’ll need to hold the rocks in place for a few seconds til the Aleene’s begins to firm up. (Thanks Sheryl for the idea of adding dimension!)
And here is a finished house!

So incredibly darling. What a fun idea!
The leprechaun boxes are so precious! That’s a great up-cycle for the Kleenex boxes too!
